The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery is the most established and foremost Centre for conducting surgeries related to heart and chest or lungs in South Tamil Nadu. The Department continues to march ahead in providing outstanding medical treatment to patients who suffer from all types of cardiothoracic disease with the best expertise.

  • Front runner in routinely performing Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) on beating hearts.
  • The most established and foremost Centre for conducting surgeries related to heart, chest and lungs in South Tamilnadu
  • Congenital Heart Surgeries are done. In these, common operations like Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), Ruptured Sinus Of Valsalva (RSOV), Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) are being done routinely.
  • Trans Esophageal Echocardiography is used by the cardiac anesthesiologist during mitral valve repair and heart failure surgeries as well as in immediate postoperative assessment. It has also become imperative for the successful outcome of these surgeries.
  • 3 Intra-aortic balloon pumps to salvage patients with Myocardial Infarction in Cardiogenic shock.
  • An Endoscopic Tower is being used for Endoscopic Vein harvesting.
  • Minimal invasive cardiac surgeries are performed.
  • Thoracoscopic lung surgeries are being performed.
  • We perform 500-600 surgeries every year. This covers the entire gamut of cardiothoracic surgery including Coronary Bypass Surgery, Valvular Heart Surgery, Congenital Cardiac Surgery and Thoracic and Vascular Surgery.
  • In the near future, we hope to undertake heart transplant surgery and keyhole robotic cardiac surgeries.
