Fertility Preservation Society India (FPSI) and Madurai Obstetrics and Gynaecology Society in association with Indian Medical Association, Madurai Meenakshi Branch today organized a Continuing Medical Education (CME) program – titled, “Preserving Fertility: Awareness to Action” at Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre to raise awareness among gynecologists, gyn-oncologists, fertility professionals, and oncologists about the latest medical advancements in preserving fertility for young cancer survivors, both men and women.
Over 160 gynecologists, gynaec-oncologist, and fertility experts from south Tamil Nadu took part in the program. The CME focused on various fertility preservation techniques such as egg and sperm freezing, embryo freezing, ovarian and testicular tissue freezing, fertility-sparing surgery (for surgically moving ovaries away from the radiation field), drugs for safe pregnancy of cancer survivors, and medical suppression especially in breast cancer patients to protect the eggs in the ovaries.
Speakers who addressed the program were eminent national and regional faculty specialised in the field of Assisted Reproductive Technologies, and Oncology such as FPSI’s president Dr. MadhuriPatil, secretary Dr. Shobhana Pattad, treasurer Dr. Devika Gunasheela, and member Dr. PriyaSelvaraj MC, MOGS’s president Dr. N.K. Mahalakshmi and secretary Dr. Padma Srinivasan, IMA Madurai Meenakshi Branch’s president Dr. K M. Senthilkumar, and secretary Dr. P. AnandaSelvakumar.
