Briefing the media ahead of World Diabetes Day on November 14, Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre consultant diabetologist Dr. C R Mahesh Babu said that Tamil Nadu was slowly becoming the diabetic capital of the country. Senior consultant of the Department of Cardiology Dr. N Ganesan said that adopting a healthy diet and lifestyle could help prevent 80 percent of diabetes varieties. He added that the most common reason for the death of diabetic patients was the occurrence of heart diseases. Consultant of the department of nephrology Dr. Andrew Deepak Rajiv said that approximately 30 out of 100 diabetics face the risk of renal failure.
