The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, MMHRC continues to be committed in ensuring that all women of all ages, and all socio-economic, ethnic and racial backgrounds can receive exceptional medical and surgical evidence-based care. We strive to be one of the premier teaching institutes in South India and are dedicated to educating future specialists in the Department, creating a safer health care environment, and engaging in research. We are dedicated to offering the full complement of basic Obstetric and Gynecological care as well as advanced care.
FACILITIES
- We perform amniocentesis (also referred to as amniotic fluid test or AFT).
- We perform Chorionic Villous Sampling (CVS).
- We perform Cordocentesis (diagnostic genetic test).
- We also have dedicated Obstetric High Dependency Unit (HDU) to care for women with medical and obstetric
- complications.
- We offer Pre-Conceptional Counseling to all pregnant women.
- We offer fetal medicine services (that focuses on fetal diagnosis, prenatal therapy, and management of high-risk pregnancies).
- We have Intrauterine Transfusion as part of invasive fetal diagnosis and therapy.
- We treat patients of Gynaec Oncology and Urogynaecology.
- We offer Adolescent Gynaecology counseling and treatment.
- We perform Family Planning, Minimal Access Surgery, Open Surgeries, and Vaginal Surgeries.
- We have certified doctors who can perform First Trimester Aneuploidy Screening with Ultra Sound Scan.
Gynecological Oncology:
Screening, early detection and providing optimal care for women with gynecological malignancies still holds our main focus.
We offer preventive strategies such as HPV vaccination to adolescent girls and young women. We have a dedicated screening programme for cervical cancer with conventional PAP smears; Liquid based cytology and HPV co-testing. We also provide colposcopy, cone biopsy and LEEP/LLETZ when indicated.
With the increasing prevalence of endometrial and ovarian malignancies, we perform radical surgeries for the various Gynecological malignancies with good 5 year survival rates. Radical hysterectomy with pelvic lymph node dissection is being done both by open and laparoscopic approach in early stage disease. We have integrated postoperative follow up, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and palliative care.
Urogynaecology:
We offer a range of procedures namely site specific repair of pelvic organ prolapse, mesh repair, high uterosacral ligation, sacrospinous fixation and abdominal sacrocolpopexy – both open and laparoscopic approach for Vault prolapse.We also conducted Live Urogynaecology operative workshop, in association with Dr. RajaMaheswari, Chennai in December 2017.
