Over 120 Specially challenged children took part at Orion 24, a unique one-day talent show conceived by the Child Development Centre (CDC), Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre (MMHRC), with an objective to provide opportunities for the special children to exhibit their talent in various creative fields.
Mrs. V. Indirani Ponvasanth, honourable Mayor of Madurai participated in the event as the chief guest. Orion 24 also saw the participation of Dr. B. Kannan, Medical Administrator, Dr A Kannan, Head, Department of Pediatrics, Dr.Uma Muralidharan, Senior Consultant, Developmental Paediatrics, Dr. M. Nagarajan, Academic and Clinical Coordinator, CDC, and therapists.
The children, all under 12 years of age, from Madurai and neighbouring districts, were affected by various neurological problems such as cerebral palsy, autism, and Down’s syndrome. They participated in fancy dress competitions, music and dance programs. Videos capturing the children at their creative best were also screened.
